The Challenge

This DIY hardware retailer is one of the industry’s largest cooperatives, generating $3 billion in revenue and supporting more than 3,800 member-owned stores across 50+ countries. With a 67,000-product assortment spanning tools, housewares, automotive items, appliances, and outdoor gear, the co-op relied heavily on accurate, responsive supply chain planning.

The company had used Blue Yonder/JDA E3 (Advanced Warehouse Replenishment) for years, but the system could no longer keep pace with modern supply chain demands or the complexity of an omni-channel retail environment. To support future growth, the retailer needed a more advanced, scalable planning platform—and a partner who could deliver the migration quickly and under budget. Using Highspring’s agile tools and methodology, the team completed full technical go-live in less than seven months.

The Solution

Highspring led the transformation initiative to implement Blue Yonder’s Demand, Demand 360, Demand Classification, Fulfillment, Order Optimization, Slow Mover Forecasting, and Replenishment Interval Optimization solutions across 2,000 vendors and 12 distribution centers.

To support the leap in technology, Highspring worked with the management team to define new forecasting, inventory planning, and order planning processes that aligned with the capabilities of the updated Blue Yonder suite. The team also collaborated with IT on interface requirements, data mapping, integration unit testing, and systems integration testing to support a more dynamic, responsive planning process for an omni-channel marketplace.

Highspring supported the client’s supply chain organization with end-user training and knowledge transfer, leveraging Highspring’s cloud services to ensure a smooth transition.

Our Impact

The migration delivered measurable improvements across forecasting accuracy, inventory turns, procurement planning, and markdown reduction. The retailer also benefited from a “manage by exception” approach that helped planners focus on the decisions that mattered most.

Overall, the project strengthened the company’s supply chain maturity and positioned the organization to operate on a next-generation retail planning platform powered by Highspring’s cloud.
