The Challenge
A leading financial services organization needed to modernize software delivery without compromising the security, identity, and governance controls that its industry demands. Without a common foundation, teams maintained their own pipelines independently, creating inconsistent security practices, duplicated effort, and a maintenance burden that slowed delivery over time. The organization needed a standardized GitHub Enterprise foundation to support secure delivery, reusable automation, and a governed path off its legacy platforms.
The Solution
Highspring partnered with the organization’s Cloud Enablement and engineering teams to design and implement a secure GitHub Enterprise Cloud platform and operating model built on Enterprise Managed Users (EMU) with Microsoft Entra ID for single sign-on and SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management)-based provisioning. Every GitHub identity tied directly to the organization’s existing identity provider, keeping access centrally controlled. Together, Highspring and the client defined governance, identity, audit, and access standards that both security and engineering leaders could align on.
Highspring then delivered production-ready GitHub Actions patterns for immediate team adoption, including OIDC authentication, reusable workflows, containerized custom actions, security controls, and ephemeral self-hosted runners. Together, these standardized the organization’s build, test, security scanning, and release pipelines across every team. Highspring also assessed the broader DevOps ecosystem, including Terraform Enterprise, to identify consolidation opportunities and produce a clear road map for retiring overlapping tooling over time.
Our Impact
The engagement gave the organization a governed, scalable software delivery model on GitHub Enterprise—fully aligned to its enterprise identity and security requirements—so engineering teams can move faster without working around critical controls.
Teams now adopt reusable GitHub Actions patterns and OIDC-based security controls instead of building pipelines independently, reducing duplicated effort and keeping security practices consistent as adoption grows.
Defined onboarding, governance, and support standards provide new teams with a clear starting point and give the platform owners a reliable way to manage growth. A road map to retire legacy CI/CD and infrastructure tooling sets the organization on a controlled path to simpler delivery and lower long-term maintenance costs.
